The practice of art has shifted. What it means to be an artist using technology—or a technologist with a penchant for art—is continuously rewritten.
Ways of thinking about and with technology emerge through trial and error. This is an exciting, but daunting prospect for artists seeking to invent new possibilities without precedent.
That’s where Src Material comes in: supporting connections between emergent technology and nascent concepts for promising artists.
In programming speak, the word “source” is often shortened to “src”, referring to source code for a program. “Src Material” weaves source code with source material – the raw and defining matter at the heart of many artists’ work.
A collective of technologists, artists, futurists, and community organizers whose individual stories are as varied as the projects we support.
Together with our grantees, Src Material develops innovative paradigms, capabilities and concepts that help artists and non-traditional technologists to bridge the gap between their existing practice and emerging technology. We believe that artists should be at the forefront of this technological revolution, not sidelined by it. We are committed to providing artists with the resources, opportunities, and support they need to thrive in a world of rapid innovation.
Src Material offers a range of initiatives and programs designed to support artists in their usage of bleeding edge technologies. We provide opportunities for artists to engage with innovative tech-centered creative practices, fostering collaborations across art and technology disciplines.
